Cookie policy
Short version: the generators themselves need no cookies at all. Three other things can set them. Measurement and advertising, which are both up to you, and the security layer in front of the site, which is needed for the site to be reachable.
Measurement and advertising are asked about separately, so you can allow one and refuse the other. Until you answer, Google is told to store nothing.
1. Analytics, only if you accept
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-W8M7VWN9LN) to see which
generators people actually use, so the useful ones get improved and the rest get fixed.
Until you press Accept in the cookie banner, the Google script is never added to the page. No request is made to Google, no cookie is set and no data leaves your browser. This is stricter than Google’s own Consent Mode, which still sends signals before consent. Press Decline and nothing loads at all. If you accept and later change your mind, the cookies below are deleted and the page reloads so the tag is gone completely.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells one browser apart from another so repeat visits are not counted as new people. | 2 years |
| _ga_W8M7VWN9LN | Google Analytics | Keeps the state of the current visit, such as when it started. | 2 years |
2. Cloudflare, needed for the site to work
The site is served through Cloudflare, which sits in front of it and handles traffic, filters out attacks and blocks bots. Cloudflare may set the cookies below. They are classed as strictly necessary: without them the security layer cannot tell a visitor from an attack, so they are set regardless of your analytics choice and cannot be turned off while still using the site. They contain no advertising profile and are not used to follow you across other websites.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| __cf_bm | Cloudflare | Bot management. Separates real visitors from automated traffic. | 30 minutes |
| cf_clearance | Cloudflare | Records that a security challenge was passed, so you are not asked again on every page. | Typically 30 minutes, set by the site configuration |
| _cfuvid | Cloudflare | Lets rate limiting tell apart visitors who share the same IP address. | When you close the browser |
Cloudflare also processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the site and stop abuse. If Cloudflare Web Analytics is switched on it collects visit statistics without any cookie and without fingerprinting.
3. Stored on your device, not cookies
Two small entries live in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device and are not sent anywhere.
eltonlab:recentremembers the last few generators you opened, so the site can show them as shortcuts.eltonlab:consentremembers your two answers, analytics and advertising, so you are not asked again on every page. This is your own setting rather than tracking, which is why it is stored either way.
Clearing site data in your browser removes both.
4. Fonts
The pages load three typefaces from Google Fonts. No cookie is set, but Google does
receive your IP address as part of the request. If you would rather avoid that entirely,
remove the two fonts.googleapis.com lines from the page headers and the
design falls back to your system fonts.
5. Advertising
Ads keep the lab free to use. They come from Google AdSense, publisher ID
ca-pub-1094471671610436, and the AdSense tag loads together with the page.
Being present in the page is also what lets Google confirm that the site belongs to the
ad account.
Before that tag runs, the page tells Google that consent has not been given, using Google Consent Mode. In that state Google is not allowed to store or read anything in your browser, and the ads you see are generic rather than picked for you. No advertising cookie is written. When you allow personalised ads the signal is upgraded immediately, without reloading the page, and Google may then set the cookies below.
Being straight about the limit of this: because the ad is fetched from Google in order to be shown at all, Google receives the request itself, which includes your IP address, your browser and the page you are on. That happens with any ad on any site and is not something a consent choice can undo. What your choice does control is whether anything is stored in your browser and whether the ads are personalised.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
| __gads | Google AdSense | Picks ads and limits how often the same one is shown to you. | About 13 months |
| __gpi | Used for ad personalisation and to tell browsers apart. | About 13 months | |
| __eoi | Marks whether you have opted out of personalised ads. | About 6 months | |
| _gcl_au | Measures whether an ad led somewhere, without naming you. | 90 days |
Those four are only written once you allow personalised ads. Google may also set
third-party cookies on its own domains, such as
IDE and test_cookie on doubleclick.net. Those belong to Google
rather than to this site, so declining stops them from being set but they cannot be
deleted from here if they already exist. Your browser settings remove them, and you can
switch off personalised advertising for your Google account at
My Ad Center.
Advertising is asked about separately from analytics. Saying yes to one does not say yes to the other, and either can be withdrawn later without touching the other.
If you are visiting from the EEA or the UK, Google also requires its own certified consent message for ads, which appears on top of this one where it applies.
6. Changing your mind
Use the button at the top of this page, or Cookie settings at the bottom of any page, to reopen the banner at any time. Choose lets you set analytics and advertising one by one. Withdrawing advertising deletes the matching cookies and switches the ads back to generic straight away. Withdrawing analytics deletes its cookies and reloads the page, so that the measurement script is gone rather than merely idle. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, which the site handles without breaking.
