Finding a name that survives first contact
A good username is short enough to type, easy to say out loud, and free of the numbers you added at 2am because everything else was taken. Start with the Clean style if the name has to work professionally, and Gaming if it needs to look right above a scoreboard.
The test that matters is simple. Say it to someone and ask them to type it. If they get it right the first time, without asking how it is spelled, it is a good handle. If they do not, you will be spelling it out for years.
Length limits worth knowing
Nothing is more annoying than settling on a name and finding it two characters too long for the one platform you actually needed. These are the common ceilings.

Stay at 15 characters or under and the same name fits essentially everywhere, which is worth more than the perfect long name that only works in one place. Underscores are widely allowed but not universally, and they are awkward to say aloud, so plain letters travel best.
What to avoid
Numbers used as filler date a handle instantly, and a birth year hands a stranger a fact about you for nothing. Leetspeak reads as 2007 whether you meant it to or not. Doubled letters and silent ones guarantee that people will find the wrong account when they search for you.
If your favourite is taken, resist the urge to bolt on a prefix like real or the. Those read as impersonation attempts and get you reported. Changing the second word gives you a name that is genuinely yours instead of a near miss of someone else’s.
Can I get more than nine at a time?
Just generate again. Each batch is fresh and duplicates within a batch are filtered out, so a few rounds gives you plenty to choose from.
Why do some names ignore my length setting?
The generator tries two dozen candidates to land inside your range and then returns the closest fit, so an occasional name lands a character or two outside it rather than failing to produce anything.
Are these usernames available?
Unknown. The tool works entirely offline in your browser and does not query any platform. Always check before you build a brand around one.
Should I use the same handle everywhere?
For anything you want people to find, yes. One name across platforms means someone who knows you from one place can find you in another without guessing. Keep a separate handle only where you genuinely want the two halves of your life kept apart.
How do I check whether a name is free?
Open the platforms that actually matter to you and try to register it, in order of importance. Availability checking sites are convenient but often out of date, and a name that shows as free can still be reserved or blocked by a filter.
Do underscores and numbers hurt?
Not technically, but both cost you something. Underscores disappear when someone says the name out loud, and numbers make it look like the second choice it usually is. Use them when they add meaning, not when they patch a collision.
